Rainy Day Session at Prairie Creek Park

I love a good rainy day, don't you?  I know that seems counter intuitive for a photographer, we do love some warm sunshine.  But, rainy days offer us opportunities to think outside the box and get creative with what we have to work with.

The cutest subject, ever.

Okay, I know that I am biased, but this is the cutest little boy in the whole world. This is my middle child, my second born, my mama's boy, my muse.  My oldest daughter is now in her twenties and has long outgrown being the subject of her mother's lens.  She withstood years of photographic trauma from being my prop as she is quite the introvert and hates being the center of attention.  Not my boy, he's shows out, yet is terribly awkward in front of the camera.  I'm hoping he will outgrow this soon, because I have BIG plans for sessions with him and his little sister in the future.

Location, Location, Location

I went location scouting earlier this week and discovered Prairie Creek Park in Richardson, Tx.  Thanks to the amazing network of photographers in the Dallas area, I am privy to all the best locations for sessions.  (A special shout out to photographer Amy Abney for walking me through how to get to the gorgeous waterfall.). This park reminds me of a greenbelt.  It's long and narrow, as it runs the length of the Prairie Creek which is nestled in a beautiful neighborhood off of the west side of 75.  There are tons of photographic spots along the trails and water.  It wasn't too crowded today, honestly.  There were people scattered about enjoying the pre-rain temperatures and lots of photographers out with their clients.  I highly recommend you visit the park when you can.  After all, it is almost picnic season!

It doesn't have to be a big production.

Don't get me wrong.  I LOVE a well planned photography session.  I enjoy planning all the the little details of what to wear, how to style the hair, family outfit coordination, senior session wardrobes, make up and props!  But today I was just itching to photograph something, anything.  So, I grabbed my boy, his rain gear, my camera and a Red Bull and made the drive into questionable weather.  I figured we would just roll with it and see what we could get.  I couldn't be happier.  These images capture my sweet boy's nature, 100%.  While he's not quite a natural in front of the camera, he IS all smiles and eager to please his mama.  Thanks to the help of my husband and eldest daughter, we were able to snag a few print worthy photos today.  AND we managed to miss the worst of the rain, BONUS!
